As of today, Colombia’s Ministry of Justice and Law has issued 33 licenses related to the cultivation of psychoactive, non-psychoactive cannabis and the use of seeds for planting. Of this group, 14 companies obtained the endorsement to produce psychoactive cannabis, that is to say, the raw material used in the medicines based on the plant.

Among the 14 firms, there are some that have permission for psychoactive and non-psychoactive, such as Khiron Life Sciences Corp, Canmecol, Cannavida and One World Pharma (which also have the license to use seeds), Pharmacielo, Medcann and Green Cannahealth.

To this group, they are added with a single Sativa Nativa license, MED Colombia, Cannabis Medical Group, Santa Martha Golden Hemp, Rodrigo Higuera, Ecomedics and Cooperativa Caucannabis, which is an ally of Pharmacielo in Cauca.

Among the companies that have permission for non-psychoactive cannabis are Colombian Cannabis, Qualcann, Canbio, ICC International Cannabis Corp Colombia (which has a license to use seeds for sowing), Procann Med, Colmed, Nusierra Colombia, La finca interacviva-Arachna Med and FCM Global.

It is expected that medicinal cannabis crops will start this year, which would give the business free rein. Most producers seek cannabis to treat chronic pain, cancer patients, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s.
